Water

Water is essential for human, animal, and plant life. Everyone is familiar with the water cycle but are you aware of how your daily actions affect the cycle of water.

Do you turn off the water while brushing you teeth? Simply turning off the water while you brush saves 8 gallons  of water

Does your home have Energy Star appliances? Consider witching to Energy Star appliances that save water

Does your home have low flow faucets in the sinks, showers, tubs, and toilets?
Consider switching to low flow faucets

Do you have a lawn? Do you water your lawn? Reducing the size of your lawn will reduce your water needs

What type of plants are in your garden Consider planting native plants or plants that are drought tolerant

Even the types of food you eat affect the water cycle. Do you eat conventional produce grown with excessive amounts of fertilizers? Excessive fertilizer runs off into the streams, rivers, and oceans; this causes dead-zones. (Dead-zones are areas in a body of water in which the oxygen is not available to fish causing the fish to die.)

Consider this:
(gallons of water per ounces of food)
Beef 1 oz takes 106 gallons
Chickpeas 76
Chicken 16
Soy burger 21
Asparagus 20
Avocado 9
Almond 24
Soy milk 21
Orange juice 33
Rice 16
Wheat bread 14

The lesson learned - consideration.
